The in-class midterm exam will consist of two parts, as detailed below.

Identifications

I will screen six excerpts from documentary films we have screened in class. You will identify the film by providing the title, the director(s), the release year, and the country of origin.

You should be familiar with all the films listed on the course schedule that we have screened through October 2. The exam will not include the actuality films by LumiƩre and US film companies screened in week 1, but it may include Nanook of the North.

Essay questions

The exam will include three questions that will require you to engage with the screenings and readings related to the major these, movements, and trends in documentary film we covered in class.

For example:
Describe how a film we have screened in class bears the influence of an institution that had sponsored the production of the film. Your description should identify the sponsor and explain, in as much detail as you can, how the film reflects the interests of that particular sponsor.

You should use the quiz questions to study for this part of the exam. For reference, the quiz questions are available below. Be sure to be logged in to your Google Suite at Pratt Institute account.
