Filthy Words

George Carlin's "Filthy Words" aired on Pacifica-owned radio station, WBAI-FM, New York, and became the subject of the landmark FCC v. Pacifica (1978) case. The Supreme Court ruled that indeed indecent speech is not protected by the First Amendment, however, there must exist a "safe harbor" for indecent material in broadcasting. The FCC has allowed such content in hours when children are "not likely to be in the audience," specifically between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am.

Below is a recording of his meta-analytical "Filthy Words" routine.
